If you want to improve your SAT Essay Writing Paper score then you must rid yourself of misconceptions and the mistakes created by these misconceptions. I have created a short list of some of the most common mistakes/misconceptions. Learn them.
Mistake #1 - Spelling and Grammar
Although general spelling and grammar are important, don't get hung up on grammar and spelling. Remember this is a standardized test and the scoring has to uniform and therefore it will be rigid and inflexible. They will be scoring thousands of tests and they cannot correct the spelling and grammar the way your English teacher would. The important thing here is give good content.
Mistake #2 - Changing Views
Usually the SAT essay will present you with a topic that has pros and cons, you are to choose one a position and write ab out it. Which view you choose is not the issue, what matters is that you don't change your view. If you start out in favor don't change your view. It is important to stay focused on one view.
Mistake # 3 - Using Big Words
It is not imperative that you use big words to impress the readers. They are going to be far more interested in whether or not your ideas supported your topic and flowed smoothly through the essay. Use the appropriate words to explain what you mean and don't worry about sounding intellectual. However, if you have a great vocabulary don't be afraid to use it.
Mistake #4 - Not Writing Enough
A common mistake made by many people is not writing enough. You are supplied with room for about two pages of writing and it is important that you use up this space. Your handwriting should be of average size and it must legible, it not you will be penalized. Your essay must be of sufficient length that it appears you put some thought into preparing it. Don't stop short.
Mistake #5 - Not Closing
A huge mistake is to get so wrapped up in your essay topic that you run out of time and forget to close. It is a must to have a closing. Therefore, watch you time and cut your essay short if you must, but the closing is more important than the content. If you don't have a closing you will severely penalized no matter how great your content is. Close and close strong.
